A three-day photography exhibition titled “Voice of Coastal Climate Resilience” opened in Dhaka on Thursday, spotlighting the struggles, leadership, and adaptation efforts of women living in Bangladesh’s climate-vulnerable coastal areas.
Organized under the UNDP’s Gender-responsive Coastal Adaptation (GCA) Project, with support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Government of Bangladesh, the exhibition was inaugurated at Drik Gallery, Level 2, DrikPath Bhobon in Panthapath, aiming to bring attention to the lived experiences of coastal women facing the impacts of climate change.
The exhibition features photographs documenting how women in coastal communities are adapting to environmental challenges such as salinity intrusion, cyclones, river erosion, and livelihood insecurity. Through visual storytelling, it highlights their resilience, local initiatives, and leadership in strengthening community adaptation.
According to organizers, women’s contributions to climate resilience often remain underrepresented despite their vital role in supporting families and communities in disaster-prone areas. The exhibition seeks to raise public awareness about women-led climate adaptation and the importance of inclusive, community-driven resilience efforts.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Shaikh Faridul Islam, State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Md Abdul Hye Al Mahmud, National Project Director (Additional Secretary) of the GCA Project under the Department of Women Affairs, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs; Sarder M Asaduzzaman, Assistant Resident Representative and Head of Resilience and Inclusive Growth Cluster, UNDP; and Md Abdul Quayyum, Head of Communication, UNDP Bangladesh, among others.
The exhibition will continue until May 23 at Drik Gallery (Level 2), DrikPath Bhobon, 16 Sukrabad Road, Panthapath, Dhaka, and will remain open to visitors daily from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The showcase features around 85 photographs by AB Rashid. Alongside the physical exhibition at Drik Gallery, it is also being hosted on a virtual platform.
The Gender-responsive Coastal Adaptation (GCA) Project, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with support from the Green Climate Fund and the Government of Bangladesh, works to strengthen climate resilience and adaptive capacity in coastal communities, especially among women, by improving access to safe water, livelihoods, and adaptation capacity to address climate-induced salinity intrusion.
