A unique cattle show featuring hundreds of sacrificial cows was held in the traditional Baharchhara area of Cox’s Bazar ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, creating a festive atmosphere across the town.
The colourful procession began at 4:00pm on Wednesday (27 May) from the Baharchhara Gol Chattar field and paraded through the city’s main roads before returning to its starting point.
Decorated cattle, musical performances, motorcade processions and enthusiastic participants turned the entire event into a lively public celebration.
Resident Saiful Islam Badsha said the initiative was not only intended to showcase sacrificial animals but also to strengthen social bonds and community harmony in the area.
“We try to organise different types of events every year to preserve the tradition and communal harmony of Baharchhara. This cattle show is part of that effort, and we hope to continue the tradition in the future,” he said.
The event created a carnival-like atmosphere throughout the Baharchhara area, attracting large crowds of local residents and spectators.
Locals said such programmes not only provide entertainment but also help reinforce social unity and preserve the cultural heritage of the neighbourhood.
