Environmental advocacy group Save the Moheshkhali Island has donated 36 sets of football jerseys to the Moheshkhali Football Academy in an initiative aimed at promoting both sports and environmental awareness.
The jerseys were handed over to academy officials on Friday morning at Aguner Poroshmoni Square in Moheshkhali upazila.
The donation includes jerseys and shorts for both players and academy officials. The jersey design incorporates elements representing Moheshkhali’s natural environment and cultural heritage.
Save the Moheshkhali Island organiser, Ruhul Amin, said that the organisation had long been working to protect the island’s environment and ecological balance.
‘This time, we wanted to raise awareness among young people through sports by presenting these jerseys to the Moheshkhali Football Academy,’ he said.
Another organiser, Abdu Rashid Manik, said that the jerseys were designed to convey a message about protecting Moheshkhali.
‘The design features the island’s hills, rivers, salt industry and betel leaf cultivation. When the players wear these jerseys on the field, they will not only play football but also help spread awareness about preserving Moheshkhali,’ he said.
Representing the Moheshkhali Football Academy at the handover ceremony were its president M Shamsul Alam Rony, vice-president Jahirul Islam, organising secretary Shahed Khan, sports secretary Mohammad Imran Ullah, and publicity secretary Jahirul Islam.
Among those present on behalf of Save the Moheshkhali Island were organisers Ruhul Amin, Abdu Rashid Manik, Ariful Islam, and Saimun Islam.
Following the ceremony, Blood Progoti Mission Moheshkhali was presented with a special honorary crest on behalf of the people of Moheshkhali in recognition of its outstanding voluntary service during the recent floods.
