Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency MP Lutfur Rahman Kazal on Monday inspected the integrated waste processing hub of Cox’s Bazar Municipality at South Mithachhari.
During the visit, he observed various activities aimed at turning waste into resources, including plastic recycling, compost production from organic waste and faecal sludge treatment.
The municipal administrator, Ramu upazila nirbahi officer and officials concerned briefed the lawmaker on the project’s activities and plans.
The 280-cubic-metre-capacity faecal sludge treatment plant, funded by the Asian Development Bank and implemented by the Department of Public Health Engineering, was handed over to Cox’s Bazar Municipality.
The government also handed over three waste-management vehicles to the municipality.
Lutfur Rahman Kajal said public awareness, alongside modern waste management, was essential to making Cox’s Bazar a clean, environmentally friendly and liveable city.
He praised the initiative, describing it as a sustainable and replicable model for other municipalities in the country.
At the end of the visit, the MP planted fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal tree saplings on the premises of the hub.
