Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhia-Teknaf) MP Shahjahan Chowdhury has been elected chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions.

The committee was formed during a recent session of the Jatiya Sangsad, with Chowdhury appointed to lead the important parliamentary body.

He has also been elected a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Public Administration.

Under the parliamentary rules of procedure, the committee on private members’ bills and resolutions plays an important role in examining legislative proposals brought by private members of parliament.

The committee examines private members’ bills and resolutions and deals with matters related to their consideration and presentation before parliament. It can also examine relevant documents and seek necessary information from concerned authorities to carry out its parliamentary responsibilities.

With Chowdhury holding positions in two important parliamentary standing committees, his appointment has drawn a positive response among people in his constituency of Ukhia-Teknaf.

Local political observers said his positions on committees dealing with public administration and private members’ bills could give him greater scope to raise issues concerning the people of Cox’s Bazar and contribute to development initiatives in the region.
