A clean-up campaign has been launched simultaneously at 56 government primary schools in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar to prevent dengue and maintain a clean school environment.

Teachers, students and guardians joined the campaign from Saturday morning, with around 13,000 students, teachers and guardians taking part across the schools.

Young students actively cleaned the school compounds, sweeping fallen leaves and collecting paper and other waste. They then disposed of the collected waste in designated bins.

Teachers and guardians also joined the students in the campaign. Besides improving the school environment, the initiative is helping students develop habits of cleanliness and awareness.

Teachers said developing clean habits in children from an early age could positively impact their families and communities. They said students would also practise the habits learned at school at home, helping raise awareness about dengue prevention and maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

Cox’s Bazar district primary education officer Gulshan Ara said teachers at primary schools in every upazila had been instructed to regularly conduct cleanliness activities in line with the prime minister’s directive, so that students could develop clean habits from an early age.

Pekua upazila education officer Ashish Bose said the clean-up campaign began simultaneously at all 56 government primary schools and will be held once a week.

He said the initiative also aims to raise awareness among guardians, alongside students, about cleanliness and dengue prevention.
