Cox’s Bazar observed World Tourism Day on Sunday with a pledge to utilise the district’s vast tourism potential and develop it into a safe, modern and world-class tourism city.
The district administration and the Sea Beach Management Committee organised a colourful rally in the morning to mark the day. The rally began at 9:30 am from the Sea-In Point in the tourism zone, travelled through the main road and ended at the tourism fair at Laboni Point.
A discussion was later held at Laboni Point, chaired by Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Md A Mannan.
Cox’s Bazar-3 MP Lutfur Rahman Kazal, reserved women’s seat MP Advocate Shamima Ara Swapna, Cox’s Bazar Press Club president Mahbubur Rahman, Cox’s Bazar Journalists’ Union president Nurul Islam Helali, officials of the district administration, tourism businesspeople and representatives of various stakeholders attended the programme.
The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day was “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism ”
Cox’s Bazar has organised a three-day programme to commemorate the occasion. The activities include a tourism fair, beach clean-up campaign, colourful rally, cultural programmes, folk music, fire show, band show, kite festival and various exhibitions for tourists.
Speakers at the discussion said various plans are underway to develop Cox’s Bazar into a safe, modern, environmentally friendly, world-class tourism city. Initiatives are underway to improve tourism infrastructure, protect the environment, and enhance tourist facilities through a master plan.
They also said planned tourism development could strengthen the local economy and create more employment opportunities. They called on all tourism stakeholders to play a responsible role in protecting Cox’s Bazar’s natural beauty and environment.
