Bakkhali High School of Ramu won the Cox’s Bazar district round of the 12th BFF-Samkal National Science Debate Festival on Wednesday.
Masumia Islamia Sunnia Alim Madrasa finished as runners-up, while Sahityika High School secured third place.
The day-long festival was held at the auditorium of Sahityika High School in Cox’s Bazar town under the slogan, “Debate means reasoning, science brings liberation”.
Teams from eight educational institutions across the district took part in the competition.
After the preliminary round, Bakkhali High School, Masumia Islamia Sunnia Alim Madrasa, Md Ilias Mia Chowdhury High School and Sahityika High School advanced to the semi-finals.
Bankhali High School and Masumia Islamia Sunnia Alim Madrasa then reached the final.
The final debate topic was, “Artificial intelligence is not a threat to students’ creativity, but a gateway to new possibilities.”
Masumia Islamia Sunnia Alim Madrasa argued in favour of the motion, while Bankhali High School opposed it. Following the debate, Bankhali High School was declared champion.
Nandita Barua Flora, a class-10 student and team leader of the champion team, was named best speaker.
The other participatingOther participating institutions included Chakmarkul High School, Mansur Ali Sikder High School, Future Leaders School and College, Cox’s Bazar Debate School,ool.
Suhrid Cox’s Bazar District organised the festival, with support from Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) and Samakal, and sponsorship from Shahjalal Islami Bank.
Cox’s Bazar City College principal SM Akhtar Uddin Chowdhury was the chief guest at the prize-giving and closing ceremony.
Officer-in-Charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Ali and Mohammad Shahjahan, chairman of the managing committee of Sahityika High School, were special guests.
Suhrid Cox’s Bazar District President and Sahityika High School headteacher Md Nurul Absar chaired the programme.
