A group of local people was recently seen moving along the coastal shoreline in search of marine crabs. Shafik Hossain, a member of the group, said they are residents of Kot Bazar and work together to catch native marine crabs from burrows along the Rejukhal River in Ukhia upazila. They then sell the crabs in local markets, which is their main source of income. Another member, Nasir Islam, said marine crabs currently fetch Tk500–600 per kilogram. The group can collect four to five kilograms a day, sometimes more.
