Bangladesh today formally opened its embassy in Ireland, creating a dedicated platform to strengthen bilateral ties, advance cooperation and engage with an estimated 25,000 Bangladeshi nationals living in the country.
The mission began its administrative functions from a temporary chancery at Alexandra House in Balls Bridge, Dublin’s diplomatic area, said a foreign ministry press release on Thursday evening.
Ambassador-designate Mohammed Nore Alam assumed charge of the mission today.
He is expected to present his credentials to the President of Ireland in due course.
The establishment of the embassy marks an important milestone in Bangladesh-Ireland relations and is expected to strengthen diplomatic engagement and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, the release said.
The mission will also work to deepen engagement with the Bangladeshi community in Ireland.
Passport, visa and other consular services will be introduced once the necessary arrangements are completed. These services will be available to Bangladeshi nationals and other eligible applicants.
The dates, procedures and relevant information regarding the commencement of consular services will be announced through official channels, the ministry said.
Bangladesh looks forward to deepening its friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Ireland through the resident embassy, the release added.
