A fire broke out in the generator room on the ground floor of The Sea Princess, a residential hotel near Sugandha Point on Cox’s Bazar beach, shortly before 5:00 pm on Friday.

More than 300 tourists were staying at the hotel at the time, but the Fire Service and hotel authorities reported no casualties.

Dolon Acharya, senior station officer of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence, said a unit from a nearby fire station rushed to the scene after receiving the report. However, hotel staff had brought the fire under control before the firefighters arrived.

He said the fire was initially suspected to have originated from a short circuit in the generator. No one was injured.

Abdul Quader, the hotel’s managing director, said more than 300 tourists were staying there when the fire broke out, but everyone remained safe.

He said the hotel had adequate firefighting equipment and that staff’s prompt response helped prevent a major accident. Although there were no casualties, the generator in the parking area and several other sections were damaged in the fire.
