Doctors, nurses, and staff at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital called off their five-day strike, which was in protest against an attack on a doctor and to demand better security.

The decision came after a meeting on Sunday (September 15) involving hospital authorities, and district officials, including Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Asif Ahmed Howladar.

Shah Talal Mahmud Dihan, representing the intern doctors, said that they withdrew the strike after receiving assurances from top officials.

“However, if no progress is made on our demands within five days, we may resume the strike,” he added.

The strike was sparked by an attack on Dr. Sajib Kazi by a patient’s relatives.

Deputy Commissioner Salahuddin said that as part of the enhanced security measures, 12 Ansar personnel, including six armed members, will be stationed at the hospital.

A permanent police presence, regular patrols, and joint forces will also be deployed to ensure the safety of hospital staff.
