Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources said the government has decided to strictly implement the ban on the production, storage, transportation, marketing, and use of polythene and polypropylene shopping bags.
For this purpose, they will conduct a nationwide operation from November 1, 2024.
Earlier, the decision to conduct raids on super shops from October 1 was taken.
The adviser said that all market authorities in the country will ban illegal polythene shopping bags on their initiative starting on October 1.
The Department of Environment will implement awareness programs then and from November 1, the law will be enforced nationwide.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan stressed finding alternatives to plastic usage for environmental protection and sustainable development.
Representatives from the traders and shop owners associations were also present in the meeting and agreed with the government’s decision.
