To protect mother hilsa, considering the breeding time based on science, fishing of all types of hilsa has been banned nationwide, including Cox’s Bazar.

The decision became effective at midnight on October 13 and will remain in effect for the next 22 days, coinciding with the full moon in the month of Ashwin. The ban will continue until midnight on November 3.

There will be a nationwide ban on hilsa transportation, buying, selling, storage, and exchange, along with implementing a conservation campaign.

At this time every year, mother hilsa flocks from the sea to the Padma-Meghna River to lay their eggs.

Given the current situation, the government has implemented a 22-day ban on hilsa fishing.
