Cox’s Bazar recently witnessed a vibrant celebration of Probarona Purnima, one of the most significant festivals for Buddhists.

The release of thousands of sky lanterns on Wednesday night (October 16) symbolized hopes for good fortune and blessings.

Buddhist monasteries and temples throughout the region marked the day with various religious activities. They observe Probarona Purnima after a three-month retreat known as “Varshavas,” which begins on Ashari Purnima.

During this period, Buddhist monks engage in meditation, contemplation, and spiritual discipline, focusing on self-purification and mental clarity.

As evening fell, thousands of oil lamps were lit at Ramu Central Seema Bihar, Maitree Bihar, and other places of worship.

The event drew a large crowd of Rakhine and Buddhist men and women.

Additionally, local Buddhist youth and students organized a special lantern release at the Khizari High School grounds in honor of the Chulamani Dhatu Jadi, showcasing intricately designed lanterns.
