Young spinner Hasan Murad from Cox’s Bazar has been called up to replace Shakib Al Hasan in the Mirpur Test against South Africa. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed this in a press release on Friday.

Although Murad has played two international T20 matches for Bangladesh, he is yet to make his Test debut.

The 23-year-old has an impressive record in first-class cricket, having taken 136 wickets in 30 matches, including 12 five-wicket hauls. He was also a member of Bangladesh’s 2020 U-19 World Cup-winning team.

Murad received his early education from the Collegiate School of Cox’s Bazar. He later moved to Baitus Sharaf Jabbariya Academy and, in 2012, joined the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP).

He completed his SSC in 2017 and HSC in 2019 from BKSP and is currently pursuing his undergraduate studies.

Anup Barua, the General Secretary of the District Sports Association, Mominul Haque, was the first cricketer from Cox’s Bazar to play for the national team.

Alongside Mominul, Hasan Murad, the second player from the district and a U-19 World Cup winner, carries high expectations from the people of Cox’s Bazar.
