Tourist ships will resume operations to Saint Martin’s Island after a two-month suspension.
Starting December 1, two vessels, Karnaphuli and Baro Awlia, will ferry passengers from the Inani Naval Jetty in Ukhiya to the island.
Mahbubur Rahman, director of MV Baro Awlia, stated that over 1,000 tickets have already been sold in advance, and all necessary preparations have been made to ensure a safe journey for travelers.
Jahed Hossain, director of Saint Martin Royal Beach, expressed concerns over the economic hardship faced by the islanders during the tourist hiatus.
Hotels, restaurants, and shops have prepared to welcome visitors, but the absence of tourists has resulted in significant financial losses.
Former president of the Cox’s Bazar Tour Operators Owners Association, Md. Anwar Kamal, mentioned that ongoing conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine state had rendered operations via Teknaf’s Damdamia Jetty unfeasible.
However, he is optimistic that the new route from Inani Naval Jetty will revive tourism and alleviate the challenges faced by the island’s residents.
