The Director-General of the Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Ziaul Haque, addressed concerns regarding the ongoing conflict between Myanmar’s military junta and the Arakan Army rebels. He reassured residents along the border, emphasizing that although the situation has escalated and the Arakan Army has weakened the junta’s forces, there is no need for panic.

Speaking to the media after distributing winter clothing to underprivileged families in Shahpari Island, Teknaf, on Wednesday (December 25), Ziaul Haque stated that the Coast Guard has been working tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents in Teknaf and Saint Martin, given their proximity to the Myanmar border.

He clarified that the Myanmar conflict is an internal matter and assured the border population that the Coast Guard is committed to maintaining security along the Bangladesh-Myanmar frontier.

During the visit, the Coast Guard chief also greeted the personnel and reviewed the ongoing operations.

On the issue of drug trafficking, Ziaul Haque acknowledged the continued smuggling of narcotics due to persistent demand. He confirmed that the Coast Guard is actively discouraging those involved in smuggling and is working closely with intelligence agencies.
