Cox’s Bazar Life recently captured Bangladesh’s national bird, the doel (Oriental Magpie Robin), amidst the region’s natural beauty. Once a common sight in fields, courtyards, and treetops, the doel is now on the brink of disappearance.
Once known for its melodious song and vibrant presence, the doel added colour and harmony to nature. However, environmental degradation, deforestation, overuse of pesticides, and food scarcity have drastically reduced its population. Experts warn that such adverse changes threaten the doel and many other bird species.
Bird specialists explain that pollution, deforestation, and excessive pesticide usage have disrupted these birds’ natural habitats and food sources. This has led to a decline in their reproductive capacity and a shrinking habitable environment. Without immediate intervention, future generations may soon become unfamiliar with the Doel.
Environmentalists have expressed grave concerns about this decline and called on the government to take adequate measures to preserve the Dole. They emphasize that failure to take appropriate measures could permanently lose this precious jewel of nature.
Collective action is essential to safeguard these birds and ensure their presence for future generations. The time to act is now, so the Doel remains a familiar and cherished part of Bangladesh’s identity.
