Sonarpara, known for its rich tradition of betel nut cultivation, is witnessing a bumper harvest this season.
The locals deeply rooted the economic significance of betel nuts in their lives, making it a key livelihood for many in the region.
This Wednesday, ripe betel nuts, known as Maza Supari, are commanding higher prices than raw ones.
The price of a large-sized Maza Supari (80 betel nuts) is Tk 550–600 per pon, whereas raw betel nuts cost Tk 400–450 per pon.
To fetch better prices, farmers from the area bring their harvest to the bustling betel nut market at Inani’s Sonarpara Bazaar.
The market showcases a variety of local betel nut types, each with unique qualities. Despite changes over time, the deep connection between the locals and betel nut cultivation remains unchanged.
The market is teeming with activity, offering a glimpse into the region’s enduring betel nut culture and its vital role in sustaining livelihoods.
