Youth Position Bangladesh was recently honored at the Chattogram Shilpakala Academy with the Youth Champions of the Environment 2024 award, jointly presented by Young Power in Social Action (YPSA), Chattogram City Corporation, and Unilever Bangladesh.
Rimon Barua, the founder of Youth Position Bangladesh, was awarded for his voluntary work in environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, and plastic recycling through the social enterprise TriRE. This initiative focuses on recycling used clothing, transforming waste into value through upcycling, and promoting the sale of second-hand clothes.
Youth Position Bangladesh actively contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of Quality Education, Good Health and Well-being, and Climate Action. Its Center for Youth Position initiative is dedicated to youth leadership training, skill development, and empowerment.
Rimon Barua initiated TriRE, a community project under the Amra Notun Changemakers’ Programme by BRAC. The project addresses climate change by promoting the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling used clothes and single-use plastics. It also emphasizes women’s empowerment by creating a social enterprise led by youth for the betterment of society.
“It’s a great opportunity to receive the Youth Champions of the Environment 2024 award from YPSA, a leading non-government organization in Bangladesh. The award will inspire me further to work for society and the environment. I’m dedicating this award to all my teammates, volunteers, advisers, well-wishers, as well as my family and friends who have supported me throughout my organizational journey of over five years. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the organizers for recognizing our voluntary work,” said Rimon Barua during the award ceremony.
