Every year, as winter approaches, seasonal vegetable farming begins along the sandy stretches of Cox’s Bazar beach. This year was no exception, but local cauliflower farmers are facing a severe crisis due to a pest infestation that has rendered their crops unsellable and inedible.

Farmers refer to the pest as “Bicha Poka” in the local dialect. “Our entire cauliflower cultivation has been destroyed by these pests,” lamented one grower. “Despite our hard work, we are now facing significant financial losses.”

Farmers have applied pesticides and insecticides to combat the infestation but with little success. They urge the local agricultural office to provide a sustainable solution to prevent further damage.
