Cox’s Bazar is witnessing an overwhelming surge of tourists during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, with an estimated 200,000 visitors arriving daily. This massive influx has led to severe traffic congestion across the city.

The worst-affected areas include the main roads of Cox’s Bazar, particularly in Kalatoli, Laboni, and Sugandha points. Heavy tourist footfall has also caused significant gridlock in the hotel-motel zone, the airport road, and the bus terminal area. In response, local authorities have deployed additional traffic police advising travelers to use alternative routes to ease congestion.

Abul Kashem Sikder, president of the Cox’s Bazar Residential Hotel-Motel and Guest House Owners’ Association, stated, “The number of tourists has increased significantly during the Eid holidays. We are doing our best to accommodate them.” He further mentioned that most hotel and motel rooms have already been booked.

Tourist Police Additional DIG Apel Mahmud reassured visitors, saying, “We have taken special measures to ensure security and manage traffic congestion. Additional police forces have been deployed at key points, and traffic control measures are in place.”

Authorities urge tourists to plan their travel with extra time and follow traffic regulations to avoid delays. Additionally, local businesses and transport operators have been requested not to overcharge tourists.

While tourism stakeholders remain optimistic about the economic benefits of this surge, residents and visitors are calling for more effective measures to tackle traffic congestion and ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
