During the nine-day extended Eid holiday, Cox’s Bazar witnessed an unprecedented influx of tourists, with hundreds of thousands flocking to the beach town from the day after Eid. The entire coastal region was bustling with visitors, and more than 500 hotels, motels, and guesthouses in the district were fully booked.

Despite the overwhelming number of tourists, there were no major security concerns, thanks to the relentless efforts of the Tourist Police, said Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Apel Mahmud, Chief of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police Region.

In a statement to journalists on Sunday (April 6), DIG Mahmud stated that Cox’s Bazar saw an enormous number of tourists throughout the nine-day Eid holiday.

“As the Tourist Police, we made every possible effort to ensure a safe and secure environment for them. We strongly believe that no visitor had to face any security-related distress. This was made possible not only by our dedicated service but also by the vigilance and support from the media,” he added.

He also said that while the rest of the country celebrated Eid with their families, the officers remained on duty, prioritising the safety of tourists.

He also expressed his gratitude towards journalists for their responsible and unbiased reporting.

Tourism experts acknowledge that managing security in Bangladesh’s most popular tourist destination is always challenging.

However, this Eid season proved that a coordinated security effort can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
