In Moheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, the NGO Agrojatra is shaping a brighter future for 500 school dropouts. Through 16 learning centers, it provides non-formal education to children aged 11 to 15.

289 are girls, and 211 are boys. The project began in April 2023 and is being implemented by the upazila’s Chhoto Moheshkhali and Kutubjum unions.

Established in 1998, Agrojatra has long been addressing school dropouts in Maheshkhali. Poor connectivity, economic hardship, child labor, and early marriage hinder educational progress.

The Arnhold Family Foundation funds the initiative, while the International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides technical support.

The Maheshkhali Upazila Auditorium hosted a stakeholder engagement and closing ceremony for the Last Mile Education Project on November 26.

At the event, Agrojatra advisor Mohammad Helal Uddin emphasized plans for similar projects in the future.

Other attendees included Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Shahadul Islam, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Zahidur Rahman, and IRC Innovation Specialist Sardar Towhid Imam.
