The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has said that all development and expansion works at Cox’s Bazar Airport have already been completed and that the government can declare it an international airport at any time.
CAAB member Air Commodore Nur E Alam made the remarks at a public hearing held at the airport’s conference hall on Thursday morning (January 29).
He said that no part of the expanded runway, built over the sea, could be relocated. According to him, the project was implemented following consultations with all relevant stakeholders before construction began.
“The recommendations made by BIWTA regarding the expanded runway of Cox’s Bazar Airport are not implementable,” he said, adding that the runway has not created any obstacles to maritime navigation.
At the public hearing, emphasis was placed on giving top priority to improving service quality for airport users.
Among those present were CAAB members (administration), additional secretary S M Lablur Rahman, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Md Nurul Huda, and CAAB director (estate management) and deputy secretary, Saniul Ferdous.
General passengers and representatives from different levels of the aviation sector also participated in the public hearing.
