The Bangladesh Army has provided free medical treatment and essential medicines to more than 2,000 people affected by the recent floods in the Pekua and Chakaria upazilas of Cox’s Bazar.
The army issued a press release to disclose the information.
According to the statement, the medical outreach programme was organised by the Bangladesh Army’s 10th Infantry Division and Cox’s Bazar Area. Special medical camps were held in Pekua on July 26 and at Betua Government Primary School in Chakaria on July 27.
During the two-day programme, more than 2,000 people from flood-affected and vulnerable areas received health check-ups, medical consultations and prescribed medicines free of charge.
A specialised team of experienced army doctors provided medical services.
The press release said providing humanitarian assistance during natural disasters is part of the Bangladesh Army’s regular responsibilities and that similar public welfare initiatives would continue in the future.
The army said the initiative would help ensure immediate healthcare for flood-affected people while also contributing to the prevention of waterborne diseases and raising public health awareness.
