In the coastal village of Borochhora in Cox’s Bazar, 69-year-old farmer Ali Ahmed has created what appears to be a green kingdom beside the sea. Battling salty sea breeze and the challenges of coastal weather, he grows a wide range of winter vegetables and fruits with remarkable dedication.

Ali Ahmed, who has lived in Borochhora for decades, said he has cultivated seasonal winter crops on one kani of land. He consistently waters the field every morning, noon, and afternoon.
“I stay busy in the field all day,” he said. “The work is demanding, but seeing the vegetables grow fills my heart with joy.”

A visit to his vegetable plot reveals rows of beans, red spinach, long beans, bottle gourds, sweet pumpkins, watermelon, cucumbers, green chilies, and several other seasonal crops.

Despite the coastal wind and sandy soil, Ali Ahmed’s consistent care has turned the land into a lush green sheet. Locals say his determination—defying age and challenges—inspires the younger generation.
