The district administration, municipality, and other government agencies in Cox’s Bazar have taken extensive preparations ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, focusing on Eid congregations, tourist security, waste management, transport monitoring, and disaster preparedness.

Authorities said special measures had been put in place to ensure smooth celebrations at the Central Eidgah ground and across the district during the Eid holidays.

The Bangladesh Power Development Board said uninterrupted electricity supply would be ensured before and after Eid prayers at the central Eidgah venue.

Recently, Cox’s Bazar municipality administrator Mohammad Shamim Al Imran, additional district magistrate Tasnim Jahan, municipality chief executive officer Mohammad Adnan Chowdhury, and other senior officials from the district administration and municipality visited the Eidgah ground to inspect preparations.

After the inspection, the officials expressed satisfaction over the overall arrangements.

During a preparation meeting, officials anticipated a significant influx of tourists in Cox’s Bazar during the extended Eid holidays.

To prevent hotels and restaurants from charging excessive rates, regular mobile court drives will be conducted, while additional security surveillance will remain in place to ensure tourist safety.

Municipality administrative officer Chhaiyadul Haque Azad said special arrangements had been made to expedite the removal of sacrificial animal waste from various parts of the town.

He said sanitation workers would continue operations in the town and tourism zones even during the Eid holidays, with cleaning activities continuing at night in key tourist areas.

Authorities have also decided to strengthen police patrols in important locations to prevent extortion, mugging, and other criminal activities during Eid.

Transport owners’ associations have been warned against charging excessive fares, particularly on the Maheshkhali-Cox’s Bazar ferry route.

Officials concerned have also been instructed to prevent overcharging on the Maheshkhali-Cox’s Bazar water route.

The meeting further noted that, due to the risk of landslides caused by heavy rainfall during the Eid holidays, agencies, including the Fire Service and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, had been asked to remain on alert.

Leave for officials and employees of relevant emergency departments may also be canceled if necessary.

To ensure orderly arrangements for Eid prayers, a 10-member management committee has been formed with additional district magistrate Tasnim Jahan serving as convener.

Deputy commissioner Md A Mannan said the district administration had completed all necessary preparations so that both residents and tourists could celebrate Eid in a safe and festive environment while maintaining the sanctity of Eid-ul-Azha.
