An awareness workshop on the role of journalists in protecting child and women’s rights successfully took place in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. The event occurred on Thursday (January 16) from morning until noon at the Himchari Auditorium of the Ramu Upazila Parishad.

The NGO Dustho Shastho Kendro (DSK) organized the workshop to sensitize journalists about their role in safeguarding the rights of children and women.

Ramu Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rashedul Islam attended the event as the chief guest. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of objective reporting by journalists to ensure that vulnerable children and women are not harmed but rather benefit from media coverage that advocates for their rights at both national and international levels. He praised DSK for organizing the workshop with journalists.

Cox’s Bazar District Press Club President Touhid Belal also contributed to the discussion, addressing various aspects of protecting children’s and women’s rights through responsible journalism.

DSK representatives delivered presentations, including Manager Mortuza Ali, Psychologist Swaib Hossain, Technical Manager Nasima Shaheen, and Technical Manager for Social Inclusion and Youth Shafiqul Islam. Faiza Sadia coordinated the workshop.

Participants unanimously agreed that journalists can play a vital role in protecting children’s and women’s rights through unbiased reporting.

Ramu Press Club President Nurul Islam Selim, General Secretary Anis Naeem, and other local journalists from the upazila attended the workshop.
