Seashells, including clams and oysters, hold significant value among the precious resources along the Cox’s Bazar coastline. The coastline naturally serves as a habitat for these marine creatures, and many local people rely on collecting them for livelihood.
The accompanying photo clearly shows several seashells trapped between bamboo sticks. The ebb tide primarily causes this, carrying the shells towards the shore. Various shells become entangled with branches, docks, or bamboo structures during low tide. Collectors can then efficiently harvest these trapped shells.
Sea shells are known for their rich mineral and protein content. In many parts of the world, the meat of these shells is considered a protein-packed delicacy. As the demand for this nutritious food grows internationally, it is also gradually gaining popularity in Bangladesh.
