The Bangladesh interim government has urged all citizens to resist mob violence and condemned recent acts of intimidation, arson, and property destruction, says a press release.

In an official statement, the government emphasised that the country is undergoing a historic democratic transition, which must not be derailed by fringe elements who reject peace.

‘The upcoming elections and referendum are not merely political exercises. They are a solemn national commitment,’ the statement said, linking the commitment to the memory of Saheed Sharif Osman Hadi.

The government also expressed solidarity with journalists of The Daily Star, Prothom Alo, and New Age, condemning attacks on media personnel as attacks on truth, and promised full justice for those affected.

In addition, the statement strongly condemned the lynching of a Hindu man in Mymensingh, stating that perpetrators of such crimes ‘will not be spared’ and reaffirming that there is no space for violence in Bangladesh.

Citizens were called upon to honor Saheed Hadi by rejecting and resisting all forms of violence, incitement, and hatred.
