The Bangladesh Navy has said it is fully prepared to ensure that the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum are held in a free, fair, peaceful, and festive environment.
Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa expressed this confidence on Sunday (1 February) after inspecting the overall security situation in areas under naval responsibility.
During the inspection, the rear admiral visited various naval contingents and polling centres in Teknaf, Saint Martin’s Island, and Maheshkhali. He said that, in line with government directives, the Navy has been working tirelessly since 20 July 2024 to assist the local administration in maintaining law and order in the coastal regions.
Security measures in place
To ensure a stable and secure electoral environment, the Navy has implemented stringent, modern measures.
Patrolling and surveillance: Regular operations are underway to recover illegal arms, control narcotics, and prevent smuggling and human trafficking.
Use of technology: For the first time, drones and body-worn cameras have been deployed to strengthen security monitoring.
Emergency response: Naval ships, helicopters, Quick Response Forces (QRF) and Rapid Action Teams have been kept on standby to respond to any situation.
Intelligence operations: Special intelligence surveillance has been intensified across the entire election area.
Voter security and preparedness
The Navy said it is maintaining round-the-clock coordination with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that voters can exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation. Naval personnel deployed for election duties have received special training and clear guidelines on conduct.
Particular emphasis has been placed on the security of polling centres, ballot papers, and election officials.
Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa urged citizens to exercise their voting rights while maintaining mutual harmony. He expressed optimism that, through the combined efforts of the government, the Election Commission, and the people, the election would be a credible and peaceful process.
