With its elongated green appearance, the Bilimbi fruit covers the tree in abundance. Known for its sharp sourness, this fruit is both beneficial and slightly controversial in its effects.

Found in the hilly regions and thickets of Cox’s Bazar, locals identify it as a favorite treat for wild animals, especially parrots and squirrels. Resembling a miniature gourd, the fruit is often mistaken for starfruit (Kamranga) due to its juicy and tangy taste.

Bilimbi fruits typically grow between 3 and 6 centimeters in size. While they are sour, they are not as intensely sharp as tamarind.

Scientifically known as Averrhoa bilimbi, the fruit is locally called Bilumbu or Belembo in Cox’s Bazar. Whether for wildlife or adventurous food lovers, this unique fruit remains an intriguing part of the region’s natural bounty.
