Hog plum trees in Cox’s Bazar are now in full bloom, creating a striking scene across the region. Although the number of leaves appears relatively low, each tree is covered with thousands of blossoms, raising hopes of a bumper yield this season among local farmers and fruit growers.

According to sources, hog plum trees in different parts of the district have simultaneously produced an abundance of flowers. If weather conditions remain favourable, these blossoms are expected to turn into fruit soon, filling the trees with a rich harvest.

Hog plum, a tangy fruit rich in vitamin C, is widely popular among consumers. Apart from its nutritional value, it is commonly used to prepare pickles that can be preserved for a long time.

Locals say the fruit sees strong market demand every year during the season. Therefore, the current abundance of blossoms indicates a promising yield, which is expected to positively impact the local economy.

However, the agriculture office noted that there is no large-scale commercial cultivation of hog plum in Cox’s Bazar.
