BNP standing committee member and party nominee for the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, Salahuddin Ahmed, has said that fair prices for salt producers will be ensured if the BNP comes to power.
He claimed that whenever the BNP has governed the country, salt workers have received fair prices for their produce.
Alleging discrimination in the current pricing system,
Salahuddin Ahmed said that consumers in Dhaka buy salt at Tk 40 per kilogram. In contrast, salt farmers in Cox’s Bazar do not even receive Tk 10 per kilogram.
He made the remarks on Thursday evening while addressing a public rally at the Magnama High School grounds, jointly organised by the BNP units of Magnama and Ujantia unions.
Salahuddin Ahmed said he had long struggled to ensure fair prices for salt farmers and had previously succeeded.
He criticised the interim government, claiming that its lack of experience led to proposals to import salt, which caused prices to fall.
He added that following requests from BNP leaders, the government had halted imports, which he said would help prices recover.
He asserted, “The BNP will guarantee fair prices for salt if it comes to power.”
The BNP leader further said that democracy and the BNP were inseparable, claiming that the two were synonymous.
He said the BNP had already presented a roadmap for the country’s future to the people, including the introduction of family cards for the poor, poverty eradication, and economic empowerment.
In contrast, he alleged that rival candidates had no concrete plans for improving the lives of ordinary people.
Among others who spoke at the rally were upazila BNP president M Bahadur Shah, general secretary Iqbal Hossain, former upazila parishad vice-chairman Shafayet Aziz Raju, district Olama Dal president Ali Hasan Chowdhury, upazila BNP organising secretary Z M Muslem Uddin, Mahila Dal leader Sabina Yasmin Jinu, Magnama union BNP president Faisal Chowdhury, Ujantia union BNP president Rezaul Karim Mintu, and upazila Jubo Dal convener Kamran Jadid Mukut.
Later in the evening, around 7:00pm, Salahuddin Ahmed also attended an exchange-of-views meeting with traders at Alhaj Kabir Ahmed Chowdhury Bazar in Pekua.
He said that if voted to power, the BNP would work for the welfare of businesspeople and all professional groups.
