A colourful cultural programme was organised in Cox’s Bazar on Friday evening to celebrate the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

The Cox’s Bazar chapter of the Jatiya Rabindrasangeet Sammilan Parishad organised the event at Shaheed Subhash Hall of the Public Library, highlighting the poet’s ideals of humanism, harmony and aesthetic beauty.

The programme featured a vibrant blend of music, recitation, dance and poetry, reflecting the multidimensional spirit of Tagore’s works. Artists of different age groups performed Tagore songs, dance dramas, and recitations, captivating the audience throughout the evening.

The event began with the lighting of ceremonial lamps in front of Tagore’s portrait as a mark of respect to the poet.

Organisers said that even in today’s divided and turbulent world, Tagore’s humanistic values, sense of equality and appreciation of beauty continue to inspire society. They noted that his literature and music remain deeply relevant in nurturing love, compassion and human values among people.

Cultural personalities, artists, writers, teachers, students and people from different walks of life attended the event. Enthusiastic participation and heartfelt performances created a festive atmosphere at the venue.

Leaders of the Cox’s Bazar chapter of the organisation said similar programmes would continue in the future to sustain the practice and promotion of Tagore’s cultural legacy.
