A total of 12,251 polling officials have been appointed across four parliamentary constituencies in Cox’s Bazar to ensure the smooth conduct of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum, which is scheduled for February 12.
Of them, 4,503 will serve as presiding and assistant presiding officers, while 7,748 have been appointed as polling officers, according to the district administration.
District Returning Officer and Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan said the officials have been appointed for 598 polling centres in the district’s four constituencies. He formally inaugurated the district-level training workshops for polling officials by launching the programme for Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria–Pekua) constituency.
The deputy commissioner also announced the deployment of two executive magistrates in each upazila to maintain electoral discipline and address any immediate issues.
He said the administration is working in line with the Election Commission’s directives to ensure that the election is held in a free, fair, and acceptable manner, with officials at all levels engaged in the process. He also sought cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a neutral and conducive voting environment.
Sources at the district election office said upazila-based training programmes for the 12,251 polling officials have begun in connection with the parliamentary election and referendum.
From January 22 to January 24, a total of 940 presiding and assistant presiding officers and 147 polling officers from Chakaria upazila received training. The deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police addressed the workshops, providing operational guidelines and instructions to polling officials.
