With Victory Day approaching, the Cox’s Bazar District Council is busy with extensive preparations. As in previous years, renovation and decoration work is underway at the Cox’s Bazar Central Shaheed Minar to facilitate tributes to the martyrs on the national day observed on December 16.

During a visit to the Shaheed Minar on Tuesday (December 9) afternoon, ongoing work included repairing broken tiles, painting, and drawing traditional alpana designs. Workers were engaged across different sections of the monument to ensure all preparations were completed within the stipulated time.

Caretaker of the Shaheed Minar, Abdur Rahim, said the renovation work began on December 6 under the direct supervision of the Cox’s Bazar District Council. “Our target is to complete all work between December 14 and 15,” he said, adding that the activities include cleaning, painting, drawing, alpana, and repairing damaged areas. “The goal is to present the Shaheed Minar in a renewed and dignified appearance ahead of Victory Day.”

Meanwhile, local cultural activist Mohammad Absar said that such renovation work ahead of national observances brings joy to city residents every year.

“It not only creates a festive atmosphere for the day but also helps preserve this historic monument in a clean and secure condition,” he said, adding that the Shaheed Minar should be kept clean year-round, not only during national events.

On December 16, a festive and solemn atmosphere is expected to prevail in the area as people from all walks of life gather at the Shaheed Minar to pay homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
