Cox’s Bazar Government College has been placed in the country’s ‘A’ category, according to a new classification issued by the Ministry of Education.

The government has divided all public colleges into four categories—A, B, C and D. Among these, Cox’s Bazar Government College has secured a position in the top, or ‘A’, category. The official notification was issued on Monday (24 November).

According to the circular, for administrative purposes, government colleges offering higher secondary, bachelor’s (pass and subsidiary), bachelor’s (honours) and master’s programmes have been grouped under the four categories.

Colleges with more than 8,000 students and over 10 honours subjects were placed in the ‘A’ category.

A total of 81 colleges—including Cox’s Bazar Government College—have secured a spot in this top tier.

Established in 1962, Cox’s Bazar Government College currently has around 15,000 students and offers honours programmes in 13 subjects.
