A large-scale running event titled Summer Beach Run 2026 was held on Cox’s Bazar sea beach on Saturday morning under the theme “Run for Blue Economy”, bringing together runners from across Bangladesh and abroad.
The event was organised by the awareness-based running platforms Cox’s Bazar Runners Community and Run Globally, with support from SSK Urmi and the Cox’s Bazar District Administration.
The race started at SSK Urmi Beach Point in Laboni Point and attracted around 800 runners from various districts of the country. Participants competed in two categories — 5km and 10km.
According to the organisers, 270 runners took part in the 5km race, while 529 competed in the 10km category.
Following the event, a total of 18 runners, both male and female, received podium awards across different categories for completing their respective distances in the shortest times. All participants were also awarded medals and food packages.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Maksudur Rahman of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) attended the prize-giving ceremony as the chief guest.
Senior ultramarathon runner and Chairman of the Swan Group, Khabir Uddin Khan, attended as special guest.
The welcome address was delivered by the race director and executive director of the organising body, S M Sadeq.
Organisers said this was their fifth running event. Their journey began with the Cox’s Bazar Run in 2023, followed by the Victory Day Half Marathon 2024, Cox’s Bazar Run 2025 and Cox’s Bazar Marathon 2025.
They also announced plans to organise the Cox’s Bazar International Marathon on November 14 this year, aiming to promote Cox’s Bazar globally as a health-conscious and runner-friendly destination.
The organisers said the event was designed not only to encourage fitness and healthy lifestyles but also to raise awareness about the blue economy and the sustainable use of marine resources in the coastal region.
