For food lovers looking to try something beyond familiar noodle dishes, a small eatery in Kyawng Para offers a taste of traditional Rakhine cuisine. Its signature Mundi — specially made noodles served with chicken soup and a mix of ingredients — has been drawing diners from different communities, as well as tourists and food enthusiasts from outside the area.
Run by Khing Rakhine, the eatery serves several varieties of Mundi, including chicken, egg and regular preparations. Customers can also order noodle salads, chickpea-based dishes and a range of other salads.
Special Mohinga preparations are available on Tuesdays and Fridays, adding another attraction for those looking to explore traditional flavours.
People from different religious and cultural communities regularly visit the eatery to taste the distinctive dishes. Tourists and food lovers from outside Cox’s Bazar also come to try Mundi, which many customers find appealing for its combination of specially prepared noodles and flavourful soup.
Khine said she was happy to see Mundi gaining popularity among people from different communities.
For the Rakhine community, however, Mundi represents more than a popular food item. The dish is part of their culinary heritage, carrying traditional flavours and food practices passed down through generations.
The growing interest in the dish has also created a space where people from different backgrounds can sit together and enjoy the same traditional food.
