Eid-ul-Azha, the Islamic festival of sacrifice, will be observed on June 7 this year. In preparation for this occasion, where the ritual slaughter of animals plays a central role, a total of 94 cattle markets, both permanent and temporary, will be set up across Cox’s Bazar district.
According to local administration sources, 48 are permanent markets, while 46 will operate temporarily to meet the heightened demand during the Eid season.
The district administration has planned a three-tier security arrangement to ensure the safety and security of buyers, sellers, and the general public. Law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and intelligence units will coordinate to maintain order in and around the cattle markets.
To finalize preparations and address key concerns, such as security, market management, and public convenience, a coordination meeting has been scheduled for May 20 at the conference hall of the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin will chair the meeting, at which decisions will be made on managing the influx of people, preventing fraud, and ensuring hygiene standards.
The meeting is also expected to discuss additional measures, such as anti-counterfeit currency surveillance teams, health monitoring units, and adequate lighting, to ensure the smooth operation of the markets.
Following the meeting, more details on the locations and operational guidelines for these 94 cattle markets are expected to be announced.
