In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Bengali language and literature, Professor Swapan Bhattacharya, Head of the Theatre Studies Department at Cox’s Bazar City College, has been awarded the Desh Pandulipi Award 2024 in the drama category for his manuscript Pathanatakguchchha (A Collection of Street Plays).
Organized by Desh Publications, the Desh Pandulipi Award is presented annually to honor exceptional literary works. This year, over 200 manuscripts were submitted for consideration. Based on the jury board’s evaluation, 20 writers from two generations were selected across 10 categories.
The award recipients were officially announced on February 26 at the Ekushey Book Fair premises. In the drama category, Swapan Bhattacharya was honored for Pathanatakguchchha. At the same time, Ahmed Tawkir received recognition for his manuscript Buk Pokete Jibon O Onyanno Natok (Life in the Breast Pocket and Other Plays).
This accolade marks a new milestone in Swapan Bhattacharya’s literary journey, further cementing his impact on theatre literature. As the head of Theatre Studies at Cox’s Bazar City College, he continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing theatre culture. His achievement inspires theatre enthusiasts and aspiring playwrights.
This year, 20 distinguished individuals were recognized across various categories. Initially, the award was planned for one winner per category. Still, the organizers later honored 20 recipients across 10 literary genres, including novels, short stories, poetry, research, essays, translation, thriller novels, drama, young adult fiction, children’s stories, and rhymes.
