As the intense heat of the Bengali month of Joishtho continues across Cox’s Bazar, local markets are filling up with a variety of seasonal fruits. Among them, the popular Langra mango has emerged as a main attraction for buyers.

Langra mangoes are currently being sold for Tk 150 per kilogram in the town’s Goongachtala neighbourhood.

Local fruit seller Hasan said the Langra mangoes now available in the market had arrived from Rajshahi. “These mangoes are very popular because of their sweet taste and rich flavour. Buyers are crowding the market from morning until night,” he said.

He added that although prices remain slightly high due to the beginning of the season, customer demand has not declined.

Langra is considered one of Bangladesh’s most popular mango varieties. The fruit is widely appreciated for being juicy, fibreless, and aromatic, making it a favourite among people of all ages.

Langra mangoes produced in Rajshahi and Chapai Nawabganj are particularly well known across the country.

Several customers visiting the market said summer feels incomplete without mangoes. Many said they were regularly buying mangoes for their families and were pleased with the taste of the early-season Langra variety.

Vendors expect more mango varieties to arrive in the market over the coming weeks, which could eventually lead to a reduction in prices.
