The supply and demand for dried red chili have surged at Cox’s Bazar Boro Bazar as the winter season boosts its usage in everyday cooking.
Shoppers are showing increased interest in this essential spice, with a wide variety—local, Bangladeshi, and imported—being sold daily based on quality and price.
Retailers report a nearly 30–40% increase in sales since the start of winter.
Consumers are particularly seeking high-quality chilies for their dishes, as they desire better flavor, color, and heat.
Depending on the quality, dried red chilies are currently priced between Tk 180 and Tk 400 per kilogram.
Business owners note that premium local varieties are more popular due to their stronger heat.
Buyers mention that although prices have risen slightly, they are willing to pay more if the quality is satisfactory.
Spice shops in the market now display chilies in an organized manner, allowing customers to easily inspect the quality before making a purchase.
