The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today issued seven-point directives for the general public to prevent the spread of the new variant of the COVID-19 virus, following the recent surge in cases in various countries.

The DGHS Director General Prof. D. Mohammad Abu Jafor gave the directives while addressing a press conference here on Covid situation in the country.
He said,” Some sub-variants have already been detected. We have directed the port IHR desks to strengthen monitoring and ensure maintaining the health regulations properly.”

For the common people, the directives of DGHS include avoiding public gathering, using face masks, covering mouth with limb or tissue during coughing, discharging used tissues at bins immediately, rapidly washing hands with soaps or hand sanitizers, avoiding affected people and maintaining social distances and not touching eyes and face by unclean hands.

The DGHS advised people at risk of coronavirus infection to stay at home if affected by fever or cough, to wear masks, and, if necessary, to contact nearby hospitals or the IEDCR for immediate support.

The Director General also assured the people not to be scared, saying, “The rate of new variant covid affected in Bangladesh is much less than other neighboring countries. We have nothing to be worried.  The vaccination process is underway.”
