With the Eid holidays bringing tourists to Cox’s Bazar, complaints have surfaced regarding excessive charges for hotel rooms, local transportation, and food.
A government official visiting from Dhaka expressed frustration, stating, “While the beach experience is enjoyable, the inflated hotel rates and overpriced food at restaurants are quite frustrating.”
In response to the allegations, Abul Kashem Sikder, President of the Cox’s Bazar Hotel-Motel and Guest House Owners’ Association, said hotel owners have been instructed to display price lists prominently in coordination with the authorities. Tourists are advised to check these lists before making payments.
Mohammad Sohel, Inspector of the Tourist Police Cox’s Bazar Zone, assured visitors that security measures have been strengthened to prevent tourist harassment. “If any tourist files a complaint, both the police and the district administration are taking swift action,” he added.
Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin confirmed that mobile courts, led by magistrates, are actively monitoring hotels and restaurants to prevent overpricing. “If we find any violations, strict action will be taken,” he stated.
