A live dolphin washed ashore on Inani Beach in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, May 23, prompting an immediate rescue effort by local beach workers. Witnesses spotted the weakened dolphin near the Marine Drive road area of the beach in the evening, drawing the attention of tourists and officials.
According to beach worker Mahbub Alam, the dolphin appeared fragile, possibly due to injuries caused by a fishing trawler or other unknown reasons. Upon receiving the alert, both the Inani Tourist Police and trained beach workers rushed to the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported visible injuries on the dolphin’s head and abdomen. The rescue team swiftly moved the dolphin to a safe area near the water, where it received initial medical attention for nearly an hour. Once the dolphin showed signs of recovery, it was released into the sea.
Additional DIG of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police, Apel Mahmud, confirmed that the dolphin’s injuries were not life-threatening. “We ensured prompt medical care and successfully returned it to its natural habitat,” he said.
The rescue highlights growing efforts in Cox’s Bazar to protect marine wildlife and respond quickly to such emergencies.
