Even as mango trees are still in bloom, signalling the final phase of spring, early green mangoes have already appeared in the Inani area of Cox’s Bazar. Sourced from nearby hilly regions, the premature mangoes are being sold at Tk 100 per piece, well ahead of the usual season.

The mangoes are being sold at roadside stalls and mobile shops, particularly in tourist-heavy areas along the Inani beach road. Both tourists and local visitors are showing keen interest despite the high prices.

Alongside green mangoes, vendors are also selling chutneys made from a mix of hill fruits and local seasonal produce. These sweet, sour and spicy chutneys are priced at Tk 50 per cup and have become popular among tourists looking for a quick local treat during their visit.

Vendor Shafiul Alam said that limited quantities of green mangoes are arriving early from the hills. “Because tourist movement is high, sales are good. When we mix hill fruits with local fruits to make chutney, customers show more interest,” he said, adding that the early sales are helping him earn some income ahead of the main season.

The early arrival of green mangoes and hill fruit chutneys has transformed Inani’s roadside markets into a spring and summer hub, giving visitors a preview of the upcoming season.
